Army Corps water plan angers environmentalists: "The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers signed off this week on the final set of permits for a new pair of reservoirs in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, and response was swift from environmentalists Thursday. The two islands will ultimately store 220,000 acre-feet of water -- four times the size of the San Pablo Reservoir in the East Bay hills -- and release three-quarters of it annually, or enough to support a million people. An acre-foot covers an acre of land to the depth of one foot."
