Desert aquifers may help arid Southern California: "Under Cadiz's proposed $150 million deal with the Metropolitan Water District in Southern California, the company would store Metropolitan's water from the Colorado River in years when the river is running high. Cadiz would bank the water in cavities beneath its 35,000-acre ranch, 60 miles southwest of Needles, and then pump it out and ship it to Southern California during dry years."
