The Dutch might build a six-story "farm" for pigs, chickens, salmon and crops. Bird van dan Barg, a pig specialist at the Animal Protection Society in the Hague, doesn't like the idea. "We are absolutely against it and so are the farmers," he says. "People do not like the idea of pigs living in flats." Jan De Wilt of the National Council for Agricultural Research in the Hague responds: If people can live in apartment buildings, so can pigs. If people don't like the idea, it's because they have a romantic view about agriculture. But that is not tenable.> Professor Fred Riggs may need to update Problems of Presidentialism and the American Exception when/if the current crisis in Florida ends, but I still recommend it as an exploration of the problems of presidentialism.>

What a small-strange-interconnected world we live in. Angie got an email from a guy at grokthis.com regarding her photo on AmIHotOrNot?. Its strange, because since I'm a Heinlein fan I've been to their website (web consulting) before... I find the interconnectedness amusing. Do you grok? Some international quotes on our presidential election/farse:

The first presidential election of the new millennium takes America into the surreal world of a possible unprecedented constitutional crisis, a crisis of confidence in the integrity of its electoral system, said the Italian center-left daily La Republica.

America today is a laughing stock, wrote the British tabloid Mirror, adding: "It's the sort of thing you would expect from a banana republic."

The German daily Die Welt said Tuesday's polls were a "macabre spectacle."

And, what did we respond with? A senior State Department official said he found the attention "amusing," but referred to those making insulting remarks as "the idiots around the world."

All of these quotes came from this article.

I've only been able to get through to the Drudge Report a few times today, but when I do, it seems that Matt has changed the look and scope of the site for Election Day. Woohoo. Weird, though, that I didn't see any ads. I guess he won't be making a million dollars today.... :(

It seems that the Knitting Circle Index of People is a list of homosexual famous people. Is this a danger (for hate crimes) or a resource? Odd. Should I make a page listing heterosexual people? > #title "Dane Carlson's Very Old Archives"

I, like everyone else who's tried it, am addicted to Am I Hot or Not?... The Torino Scale is a "Richter Scale" for categorizing the Earth impact hazard associated with newly discovered asteroids and comets. It is intended to serve as a communication tool for astronomers and the public to assess the seriousness of predictions of close encounters by asteroids and comets during the 21st century. I've been reading a view from over there for a little while now, and I must admit, that though the posts are short, they are fun!> Angie and I are in the market for a new bed. We've been looking at queen sized beds, but to give us a better idea of all the choices, I've made a little chart of all the different sizes of beds. If you've slept in a double sized bed for an extended period of time, please let me know. I don't personally know anyone who has.> Ok, ok. I've gone and redesigned everything. Hope you enjoy it. The brown is rather soothing, but I'm not sure the font colors are 100% readable.
