America the Bountiful: "Food is a major facet of civilization and food in America reflects the many cultures that have met and blended in the Great Melting Pot. Furthermore, food in America is a reflection of the great bounty that is seen as a byword for America. Under the direction of University of California, Davis, Nutrition Department Professor Louis Grivetti, a number of individuals and organizations researched and assembled an exhibit chronicling the use of 10 classic American food groups including: beef, chicken, turkey, pork, potatoes, corn, greens, wheat, beans, and apples. These foods continue to play a major role in American culture."
Finally! Lab-grown steaks nearing the menu: "Fancy a beefburger, but want to spare the cow? Tissue engineers experimenting with ways of growing meat in a lab dish could soon provide a solution." Cows are just meat factories, anyway. Maybe an easier approach would be to develop a cow without a head.
Utah bowled over by meteor plan: "In a milestone of scientific eccentricity, local astronomers have announced that they want to simulate the behaviour of falling meteorites by dropping bowling balls from aircraft - though the plan has gone down like a lead spaceship with government officials." Damn government officials. Of course, thats what you get when dealing with "public" land. I've got an acre that anyone who wants to can drop a bowling ball onto from high altitude. Drop me a line and we'll hook up.
Washington Post: Bush to Stop Short of Justifying War. Thats good, because only Congress has the power to declare war!
Just found out that I have to send my laptop into Compaq. It has this little problem where if I move the computer while its on, it turns off -- or restarts. What a crock, but you can see how that would be a problem with a laptop. Especially when Angie, Emerson and I go wardriving in the middle of the night.
Test your knowledge with Science Bowl quiz: "Here are the test questions. If you get at least half of them right, you'll receive a virtual pat on the back. If you learn something in the process, that's a bonus."
Steve Pilgrim intends to relocate to the Pacific Northwest. He's looking to network, and may be just who your company is looking for!
WFI Total Cost of Ownership: "TCO is an attempt by IT professionals to consider the true cost for a given technology. Its pretty easy to ignore some pretty significant costs when you get emotional about a new technology and can't wait to deployit. Take, for example, desktop machines. The cost of the machines is only a small portion (about 10%) of the total cost of owning and operating one in a commercial environment. There's software, administration, maintenance, support, training, etc. We can contemplate some of those issues for a Wi-Fi network as well. Here are some of them."
Auto Taser: "If the AUTO TASER's ultra sensitive vibration detectors sense an intruder, a screeching 120 to 130 decibel alarm is sounded as a warning before aggressive countermeasures are initiated. Five seconds later, a field of electrons completely surrounds the unit. Any attempt to touch the AUTO TASER zaps the thief with an unforgettable, yet non-lethal 5,900 milliwatt (50,000 volt) electron pulse."
