Sound to make an army flee: "A new sonic weapon being developed for the Pentagon makes use of one of the most fearsome sounds known to humans: a baby crying. Well its come down to the this: Turkey is my final hope. Early in the World Cup, I was rooting for Argentina. After they were eliminated I cheered on my home team. When they left, I through my full support behind the South Koreans. Now, I find that every team I was supporting is gone and I am faced with the possiblity that the final match will be played between the two teams I didn't want to see advance. Brazil and Germany have both won their share of World Cups, and I was looking forward to seeing a new team elevated to soccer greatness. Germany's fate is already decided, their defeat of South Korea yesterday promoted them to the final. Brazil's future is, though, is stil in the the hands of my new favorite team, Turkey. Go Turkey!

Its Show and Tell time in Creative Services

Remember when we had no e-mail? "It's still slightly surprising to people to remember that as recently as 1994 most people not only didn't have e-mail, but they didn't really know what e-mail was, and it didn't occur to them that they were ever going to have it. I remember it all vividly, because I started an Internet company in the summer of 1993. And I remember talking to my friends about it, and people thought I was nuts. I would talk to lawyers, and I would say: I think it's possible that in a while, maybe in a few decades, every law firm will be able to send e-mail, just as now they use the fax machine. And my lawyer friends would roll their eyes and humor me."

Greenland Ice Sheet Melting: "New measurements show that the flow of ice in the Greenland ice sheet has been accelerating since 1996 during the summer melt season. The results suggest that the ice sheet may be responding more quickly to the warming climate than previously thought."
