Oops again.
Good morning. I'm back at work after about a week off for the birth of Emerson. I haven't been keeping up with anything but that which I can hold in my lap. Whats new in the world? I see that the Raelian's have 'cloned' a human. In the all the fuss to come, lets try to keep in mind that the supposed clone is just a little baby. My entire outlook on life has changed in the last week. I used to mouth that pregnant woman and babies were the most important thing in the entire world, but now I believe it! Seeing the miracle of child birth firsthand was an intense and uplifting experience.
On December 24, 2002 my son Emerson Benjamin Grant Carlson was born. Angie and the baby are doing fantastic. We're home from the hospital and everyone is resting. Merry Christmas!
Yahoo to buy Inktomi for $235 million: "Shares of Inktomi (INKT) are flying 53 cents, or 45 percent higher, to $1.70 in pre-open trading after Yahoo (YHOO) announced an agreement to buy the Internet search provider for $235 million, or $1.65 a share in cash."
Canada to offer dope home delivery via the Web: "Marijuana activists in Canada have set up a website (www.marijuanahomedelivery.ca) that offers home delivery of cannabis to seriously ill people. This follows a decision by a judge that it was unconstitutional to deny patients access to the drug. Quebec Superior Court Judge Gilles Cadieux halted the drug-trafficking trial of two volunteers, Marc-Boris St-Maurice and Alexandre Neron, from the Compassion Club of Montreal a group that provides marijuana for medicinal purposes." The website lists some of the ailments treatable with Cannabis. Now I'm not sickly, but according to this list, I qualify half a dozen times.
1000 mile contestants accept challenge in their sleep: "Athletics is all about facing a challenge and arguably none come greater than the one which will confront the six competitors who yesterday were named to run or walk a mile every hour for 1000 hours. In a concept devised by the organisers of the London Marathon, the Flora 1000-mile challenge is set to become one of the most high-profile athletics events in Britain next year."
Cities eat away at Earth's best land: "Urbanisation is eating away at the planet's most fertile and productive land. Although only three per cent of land has been built on in the US, the resulting loss in plant growth is enough to offset the gains made by agriculture as shown by a groundbreaking study."
J.R.R. Tolkien -- enemy of progress: "The Lord of the Rings is lovingly crafted, seductive -- and profoundly backward-looking. Why not look at things through the Dark Lord's eye for a change?"
U.S. Social Security May Reach To Mexico: "Pushed by the Mexican government, the Bush administration is working on a Social Security accord that would put tens of thousands of Mexicans onto the Social Security roster and send hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits south of the border. White House and Mexican government officials say discussions on an agreement to align the Social Security systems of the two countries are informal and preliminary."
Bush to propose requiring ISPs to monitor Net: "The Bush administration is planning to propose requiring Internet service providers to help build a centralized system to enable broad monitoring of the Internet and, potentially, surveillance of its users."
