Lost in translation: "Transcribing Arabic into the Roman alphabet is fraught with difficulty. And in an age of electronic text, search engines and databases, the problem is only going to get worse, writes Brian Whitaker."
Argentina is out! Sweden and Argentina tie, 1 to 1. England and Nigeria and Nigeria tie 0 to 0. Nigeria and Sweden advance.
World Cup: I have the TV on the Sweden - Argentina match, and am monitoring the England - Nigeria match online. I'm not really suprised that Nigeria turned out to be the weakest of the four, but I am concerned that Argentina is in third place. If they don't win tonite, they could be going home without even moving forward to the second round.
Art Bell has some great photos of last night's eclipse.
Thanks to everyone who has submitted their answers to the "What Do you Do Survey". I will post the results, as they come in, here.
This morning Carrie asked me if I could put together a list of what everyone actually does here at ETL for the Intranet. Her request seemed reasonable enough. We're adding new people all the time and a list of actual responsibilities makes sense. Until, that is, I sat down to think about it. I have no idea! So, could you help out and send me a brief description of what you do all day long here at ETL? A few sentences are more than enough, really. To make this exercise even more interesting, please include an even briefer description of what you do when you're not at ETL. What makes you tick?
