Fueled by Drought, Wildfire Gets Closer to Denver: "After starting on Saturday as a campfire, a fast-moving wildfire in central Colorado had scorched its way through nearly 120 square miles of forest land by today. It swept to within 50 miles of metropolitan Denver, and the local authorities warned thousands that they might have to evacuate their homes. The wildfire was the largest of eight burning around the state and was expected to grow as part of what federal fire officials were calling the worst start to any summer fire season in memory. By tonight, none of the wildfire had been contained, and some firefighters were pulled off the front lines because of its intensity. A shift of winds, however, turned the fire back on itself tonight, and the threat of evacuations eased somewhat."
Is America Broken As Designed? "How closely does the specification follow the stated goals? How well does the implementation follow the specification? How accurately does the implementation embody the stated design goals? "
France looses to Denmark (0 to 2) and becomes the first defending champions not to advance to the second round since Brazi in 1966. Senegal and Uruquay tied 3 to 3. Germany beat Cameroon 2 to 0. Ireland beat Saudia Arabia 3 to 0.
Low lake level makes it rough for boats: "Boats, especially sailboats with deep keels, may get stuck around the shores of Lake Tahoe this summer because of low water. The lake is 18 inches lower than it was this time last year, a fact which has already led to the closing of three boat ramps at South Shore."
Large Volcanic Eruptions Affect The Greener Greenhouse: "Last year, scientists discovered that the northern hemisphere was becoming increasingly greener due to increased warming. Furthering that study, researchers have discovered that tremendous amounts of tiny pollutant particles thrust into the atmosphere by large volcanic eruptions slow plant growth, but still enhance the ability of lands to act as a sink for carbon, as reported in the May 31st issue of Science."
Wildfire may force 40,000 from Denver area: "A wildfire raging in the Pike National Forest southwest of Denver has doubled in size since Sunday and picked up speed, possibly forcing the evacuation of as many as 40,000 people from the southwest outskirts of Denver, state officials said Monday."
I've been thinking, now that the Bush administration is creating a brand new federal department never anticipated by the likes of Jefferson, Washington or Madison, is cult of the Founding Fathers finally over?
