My mother-in-law posted a classified ad for an old computer on a local website, and someone tried to scam her. I told her to play along. The scammer mailed us a check, and I even spoke to him over the phone -- eventually, I grew bored of the charade and ended it. Maybe he'll think twice next time.

I've been experimenting with Google AdSense and closely watching the conversation about it across the blogosphere. As much as I'd like to share my thoughts, I'm restricted by Google AdSense Standard Terms and Conditions. Specifically:
8. Confidentiality. You agree not to disclose Google Confidential Information without Google's prior written consent. "Google Confidential Information" includes without limitation: (a) all Google software, technology, technical specifications, materials, guidelines and documentation relating to the Program; (b) click-through rates or other statistics relating to Site performance in the Program provided to you by Google; and (c) any other information designated in writing as "Confidential" or an equivalent designation or disclosed in a manner in which the recipient of such information should have reasonably understood under the circumstances that the disclosure should be treated as confidential, whether or not the specific word or mark "confidential" is used. It does not include information that has become publicly known through no breach by You or Google, or information that has been (i) independently developed without access to Google Confidential Information, as evidenced in writing; (ii) rightfully received by You from a third party; or (iii) required to be disclosed by law or by a governmental authority.I wonder if those sharing their click-through rates are aware of their violations? The bigger question, of course, is why does Google demand this of AdSense publishers.
A sneak preview of the president's 2004 campaign: "Presumably by accident, somebody left a live prototype of President Bush's 2004 campaign site on the Web for a few hours today."
Emerson,
Today you are six months old. Congratulations, son.
You are beginning to gain mobility and crawl -- you will take the first halting steps of freedom soon. Teeth are still are growing inside your mouth and and already you want to feed yourself. You've made your mother and I so happy.
At the half way point through the most dangerous year of your life, remember that I'll always try to protect you.
I love you.

Savant for a Day: "[The Medtronic] also produced, they noted, strange and unexpected effects on patients' mental functions: one minute they would lose the ability to speak, another minute they would speak easily but would make odd linguistic errors and so on. A number of researchers started to look into the possibilities, but one in particular intrigued Snyder: that people undergoing transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS, could suddenly exhibit savant intelligence -- those isolated pockets of geniuslike mental ability that most often appear in autistic people."
The Risks of Breast Implants: "Swedish studies showed that women with breast implants were three times more likely to commit suicide than other women." via Angie. Remind me not to suggest them as a birthday present.
