Everyday, I usally spend a little time answering Steve Pilgrim's questions. He's a Radio newbie, but his questions just keep getting better and better. Today, I lucked out, though -- Dave answered Steve's questions for me.

Diary of a Start-Up [1]:...

Diary of a Start-Up: "This is a story about a company. A company that was profitable from Day 1. A company that built products that were useful to many other companies. A company that had ethics, that treated the breadwinners (programmers) with respect, a company that could afford to help people and give away software and training, while still having enough left over to grow and save a few $million in the bank. That is, until the venture capitalists arrived on the scene."

John Adams and his pre-Internet...

John Adams and his pre-Internet weblog: "[He] was a lousy writer. At least when he wrote books and articles. His books are cranky hotch-potches; formless and almost unreadable. He was very combative; he was at his best in the quick give-and-take of argument, and was very successful as a lawyer. But he rarely took the time to organize his (often excellent) ideas into reasoned discourses. However, unknown to the world, he spent much effort writing in a different style. He owned the best library in North America, and the books he read most often were those whose arguments he hated ! He would fill the margins of those books with comments and refutations. He would tear them apart line by line. Does this sound familiar?"

The Independent: "The intellectually unstimulating task of asking questions of internet search engines has exploded into a new sport: 'Googlewhacking'." and the article mentions me!

A followup on Terry Gross's...

A followup on Terry Gross's NPR interview with Gene Simons from Lisa Rein (who actually heard the interview): "Simmons declined to give permission for [the NPR] Web site to offer audio of his interview, or sell tapes or transcripts of it... Gross didn't so much as raise her voice throughout the entire exchange. She conducted herself in her usual polite manner. Towards the end, she stopped speaking entirely, and just let Simmons babble away until the time ran out... In conclusion, no one will ever know why Gene Simmons chose to insult NPR, its staff, and its entire listening audience instead of selling them all a couple hundred thousand books."
