NY Times: Scientists have discovered a new cell in the eye responsible for resetting the biological clock. "This region, called the suprachiasmatic nucleus or SCN, is just above the optic nerve on both sides of the brain. A pinhead speck of tissue, the SCN measures the passage of every 24 hours by making and consuming proteins in precisely timed fashion - letting the body know when to wake up and when to go to sleep."

The Blue Marble "This spectacular "blue marble" image is the most detailed true-color image of the entire Earth to date. Using a collection of satellite-based observations, scientists and visualizers stitched together months of observations of the land surface, oceans, sea ice, and clouds into a seamless, true-color mosaic of every square kilometer (.386 square mile) of our planet." from The Shifted Librarian

Buzz Aldrin to launch Martian cruise service: "The second man to walk on the Moon is planning a chain of 'orbiting hotels' cruising perpetually between the Earth and Mars. Within 20 years, three spacecraft carrying up to 50 passengers would operate a continuous liner service between the two planets, ferrying the people and materials that would be needed to start a Martian colony - or offering the ultimate package tour. To reduce the cost of the eight-month voyage, the vessels, known as 'cyclers', would be propelled mainly by the gravity of the Sun, the planets and their moons, orbiting the Sun under their own momentum. Their orbits would be calibrated to cross those of the Earth and Mars when the planets were near by, allowing passengers to take 'taxi' craft, like the space shuttle, to and from the planets."

A reader asked, \"I was...

A reader asked, "I was just wondering, most other sites and articles I have come across claim that a googlewhack is obtained when you search with two words not three. What's the deal?". For thousands of years, the Knights of Googlewhack have made their combat with three words. One week ago, when sudden fame and glamour was thrust upon that ancient order, the High Wizards got together and voiced an amazing concern. As the number of Googlewhacks is trully limited to some finite number, and as more and more people become interested in the craft, the likelyhood that all Googlewhacks would soon be found became real. Converting the definition of a Googlewhack from three words to two, could increase the number of whacks available and reduce their sudden shortage, they thought. Immediate action was needed, so without the consultation or consent of the Knights, the High Wizards changed the rules, and through their magic changed any rule that had ever been published in the past to reflect this new number of words. All but one page, that is. By hiding in a small cave, off the coast of France, ex-communicated former Court Jester Dane survived with the original instructions intact.
